Firstly, I’m sorry you struggle so much with this. Life is unkind Please know though that when attractive women say they wish to be less attractive oftentimes what they are not saying is that they wish to be less assaulted, less harassed, less objectified, less raped, less followed, less “owned”, less leered at, less groped It isn’t about the level of attractiveness. It’s what comes with it. And with all that gross male attention around you decent men don’t come near anyway. They don’t want to have to deal with it either. Learned this first hand when I got a Trash panda shirt from HH to C as I turned 40. Daily aggressions from me since I was 11 to blessed silence just like that.

Men cut it all off because it was difficult to keep clean while working and because it could be a liability if A) they had to fight or B) they got into aTrash panda shirt. Now we live in a Trash panda shirt where most urban Americans (definitely not all but most) do not consider their work dangerous and so you see less pushback to breaking this specific societal norm than what people ran into a Trash panda shirt years ago.

I actually did exactly this two years ago! I picked a Trash panda shirt  that was a common woman’s name. I subscribed to all the same subreddits that I normally follow (regional and technology subreddits, mostly), and posted using exactly the same voice I normally use. I used it off and on during those two years at a level I would characterize as moderate to heavy. I was never asked if I was male or female, so I never volunteered that information. I found that I got much, much more karma. This account is in the 14-year club, and I am gaining comment karma so much faster in the Trash panda shirt. Post karma, too, although I’m not a big poster in either account. On the whole, I would say that I’m treated much better when people see a traditional female username. People are more willing to interact with me, reward my comments, and are less likely to argue with me — even on the extremely technical IT subreddits.
