Depends on the kid. Long story short, I don’t think this is neglect by any means but it also is heavily dependent on the child in question and how long he is being left on his own with the newborn. Couple of hours is probably okay, but he needs to have training. There are a lot of free resources for caretaking classes. It’s also important that he isn’t left to do this all the time and that he’s given adequate time on his own to do age appropriate stuff without parenting/caretaking responsibilities

Privatizing schools doesn’t really help. There’s no money in teaching kids who don’t learn automatically and on their own. I found this out when a neighbor of mine (I live in a pretty poor neighborhood) managed to get their kids into a swanky private school. The girl dropped out because of relentless bullying over her poverty and the boy’s grades dropped to Bs and Cs so he was kicked out. Private schools make money by ditching kids who actually need to be taught and keeping the ones that learn on their own with minimal effort.

That does not appear to be the case when you look at the standard in the curricular context. In addition, we don’t know the extent to which DeSantis was involved in any of the standards revisions. He claimed not to be involved (although surely he has control over the appointment of the DOE Secretary and perhaps even direct control over the appointment of the curriculum committee). If Business Insider were trying to do real journalism they might’ve tried to find out and tell us. But instead they give us click bait garbage that furthers the general effort to inculcate resentment toward DeSantis in the lead up to 2024. Again, I hate DeSantis and I’m a reliable blue vote. But that doesn’t mean I have to ignore the “indoctrination” that goes on in the media too.
