This is great information! I work in a jail that is literally falling apart. Hoping that will change this year. The food at our jail is nasty, I would be so skinny if I was incarcerated there. One good thing is that every inmate gets a personal tablet that they can play games on, read books, listen to music and podcasts (all limited), and have video calls with friends and family. They can purchase more perks with funds on their books. We have dorm style housing, 23/1 (locked down 23 hours, out for one hour), and isolation housing for all inmates, male and female. We have medical staff, mental health staff, and Re-Entry services staff(me). Again, appreciate your insightful post OP!! Hope you don’t ever have to return there!!

If I really want to show disrespect to my flag or Santa Dinosaur Christmas Ugly Sweaters Christmas Xmas Sweater I would just simply ignore it completely. What I saw today, kneeling with a hand on their chest and head down or locking arms showing unity, at least to me, is NOT a gesture of disrespect. It is DIFFERENT from what we’re used to for sure, but it seemed to me a different form of the same thing. They’re simply doing this to express their disagreement with Trump, and possibly what’s going on in today’s society in general, in a way that they know will grab attention. I’ve heard people say they should keep politics out of sports, or that they could protest all they want on their own time. Keep in mind that majority of players did not start doing this, and majority of fans probably did not care one way or another, until Trump crossed this line and suggested the players be fired for exercising their right. What good is a protest if nobody sees or hears it? These are professional athletes. This is their best platform for making a statement. If the league and the owners have no problem with them doing this, and some are actually doing it WITH them, then I don’t see how anyone else would have valid reasons to shut them up.

As a general aside, I knew several 14-15 year old girls when I was about the Santa Dinosaur Christmas Ugly Sweaters Christmas Xmas Sweater age who fell out with their families for whatever ridiculous reason (by today’s standards…hopefully) who made friends and became roommates with other slightly older girls in their late teens (who had similar histories and had their own places). They just got jobs under the table as waitresses and such (it was the 80’s, not sure that’s so easy these days) from sympathetic business owners. For the most part the just got on with their lives, eventually they got back in contact with their families. Seemed not that uncommon to me at the time as a teenager myself. This is almost 30 years ago. Things have changed. Parents used to throw their kids out for back talking too much and sneaking out too much, being gay. Seemed crazy to me as a kid, and absolutely horrible now as an adult. Oh, and I get this was reported as a disappearance/runaway and I mean to imply nothing about this instance, but you would be surprised how the parent’s story turned to ‘they ran away’ to the police, when it was actually ‘get out of my house and don’t come back’. All that said, I don’t think any child’s disappearance should be treated as if this is the case. I only point this out since there seemed to be some opinion that it couldn’t be by both the OP and several responders.
