Part of what made the NFL Texas Longhorns Skull Flower Ugly Christmas Ugly Sweater is that it actually has some quite interesting/cool individual scenes mixed in all the mess. But it had also lots of interesting new ideas and it was a great point to get into comics for new readers. I remember at the time starting to read comics and I was constantly asking myself “Who the hell is this person?”. Then you read a bit into the start of the UU and you didn’t have that problem at all, as the characters were being introduced.

The Coca-Cola company get their coca leaves from the Stepan Company, who are the only company allowed to import coca leaves into the USA. Stepan extract the cocaine and sell it to the pharmaceutical industry. Also, Buckfast Tonic Wine has more caffeine than Red Bull…

Good write-up. Though the NFL Texas Longhorns Skull Flower Ugly Christmas Ugly Sweater I’ll dispute is that the Ultimates were never not assholes without any consistent character traits beyond being assholes, and I’m pretty sure Ultimates 1 and 2 were considered pretty bad even at the time, though obviously not on the same level as 3. On a more personal note, you know how every comics fan has that one character who they absolutely love but never gets top billing and will just flicker in and out of continuity, so you have to do deep research to find the books they’re in? That character for me was the Ultimate version of Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman and later Black Widow). I don’t think anyone but me actually remembers she exists despite the fact that she was a very major supporting character to both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. I’m still a little salty she didn’t get pulled into the mainline continuity despite the fact that the whole deal was Miles and his associated characters got to make the jump.
