nailed it! the LSU Tigers Grinch Candy Cane Ugly Christmas Sweater that made me quit buying comics around 2000, all spelled out in detail. basically BAD writing and writing or shock value only made it insanely bad. I want the heroes of 616. (also the 616 costumes in teh movies, not these shitty ones we keep getting.) Maybe I am in the minority, but I think younger readers are missing a lot of GOOD stories and models of how to be good and heroic that our society NEEDS badly right now. Excellent point. things were NOT MEANT to be interconnected, and it destroys credibility and continuity. It’s bad. so bad. I hope they will find good writers someday, but dan didio or whoever i sin charge now seem to not be interested in having HEROES and telling good stories. It is INSANE to have every story line about universe threatening events, too. DC followed marvel way too much in this, too. They want to introduce legacy heroes, but this isn’t reality, it’s FANTASY. While new heroes are a good idea, they should mostly stand on their own merits not pull in or buy into 60 years of history of one well established character or another. IT is high time they recreated a new version of the heroes like they did in the sixties at DC, but totally disconnect them from the old heroes. instead we get 52 universes with stupid versions of the same characters. nothing new.

Here’s how I make them. Note that a LSU Tigers Grinch Candy Cane Ugly Christmas Sweater has lime, but I forgot about it my first few times making one and by the time I remembered I already liked the way I make it enough to not change a thing. First off, I use a solo cup to help measure. I fill up to the very first ridge in the cup with Worcestershire sauce. Then I do my best to cover the Worcestershire sauce with a thin layer of Valentina’s hot sauce (make the layer as thin as you can, you don’t want too much). After that, I pour in a splash of Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix. Then I pour in an entire 12 oz can of Dos Equis and stir. Ideally this will fill the solo cup right up to the top (if there’s room left, fill with more Zing Zang). I would recommend using beer from a can and not a bottle because clear and green bottles are prone to skunking. I haven’t experimented too much with different beers, but I tried Modelo for a while and it had a nasty aftertaste so I went back to Dos Equis.

Some of the LSU Tigers Grinch Candy Cane Ugly Christmas Sweater and titles towards ultimatum I didn’t think were that bad — yeah, ultimate origins is full of contradictory retcons but Bendis bad plotting is a world better than Jeph Loeb’s. I think part of it is Stockholm syndrome because I loved the ultimate U so much (I collected all of the oversized hardcovers of all the phase 1 titles). As cringe as I found Mark Millar’s writing as time went on, I actually think his ultimates 1 and 2 work still hold up okay. Yes, everyone are assholes and it’s a superhero deconstruction but it’s more focused and executed well than his later sloppy work IMO. I also like how some writers like BKV and Mike Carey took over UXM and UFF and were pretty respectful of its material. Robert Kirkman started off okay with ultimate X-men but really dropped the ball at the end with the apocalypse storyline unfortunately. Anyway, I really loved having a marvel universe that had really solid streamlined stories and titles for a time. It is really tough because I think there are some titles that came after that are still fun to read (ultimate armor wars, ultimate comics Thor) but ultimatum breaks up the read in a really awkward way. Not only do they kill everyone but so many plots and stories are woven into the event or preceding events like ultimates 3 that it is hard to read after and not get an awkward reference later. Ultimatum is the first time I ever learned the value of headcanon and pretending something did not happen out of denial. I’ll always be thankful to the ultimate u for being a great source of comics growing up. To this day that impact is felt with its influence on the MCU. Personally, i still wish marvel would streamline more — do you really need more than four titles of Spider-Man, x-men, avengers, and F4 at any time? Thanks for this trip down memory lane!
