I felt the same way about Penn State fans predicting a In This Season Hear Ye Him Not Me Ugly Christmas Sweater Knitted Gift For Men And Women. I just think these are two fairly evenly matched teams. I think it comes down to those Auburn fans potentially overvaluing the 2 tune up games and seeing Penn State’s offensive production, or lack thereof, against Wisconsin and assuming everything from your first 2 games will carry over seamlessly. On the flip side, I think the more extreme Penn State fans are thinking that Auburn is going to be caught completely off guard because they haven’t played anybody, while also seeing Penn State as battle-tested thanks to that Wisconsin game and assuming they’ll be well-prepared. There’s problems with both arguments. Not everything Auburn’s done thus far is going to carry over because the level of competition will be raised significantly, while that same schedule that made Auburn look so great also means Penn State has virtually no good film to prepare for. I think it’ll be a really competitive and fun game, and, while I think we pull through, Auburn wouldn’t really shock me too much with a win either. May the best team win this weekend!

After a rough start, I’m super encouraged by our defense – Michigan may be able to have success running the ball, but it won’t be able to run at will like last year. The front 7 has had a dramatic improvement in the run game, and our DBs have been ballhawks all season. If Penn State can force O’Korn into some bad throws, and at least slow down the Michigan ground game, there’s absolutely no reason why they can’t win. But… even after Iowa, I’m less confident in Penn State’s ability to win a dogfight. Saquon isn’t running for 200 yards, and at some point, Penn State will have to let Trace throw down the field – something they’ve completely abandoned the first six weeks of the season. If this is a low-scoring game, I just don’t trust Trace, against the Michigan D, not to lose it. He’s been brutal in the red zone, and – Iowa game excepting – has twice thrown baffling interceptions on Penn State’s final drive to seal a loss. (Pitt, USC.) I’ve been dumbfounded by some of the playcalling on offense, too – it’s almost like the primary goal is pumping up Barkley’s stats rather than finishing off drives. There’s so much talent at WR going to waste. Whatever. I’m a notorious pessimist. Maybe Penn State will play like crap and win the next 6, too. I agree that it’s either a comfortable Penn State win or a close loss – or a game similar to Indiana, where Penn State gets up early, then falls off a cliff, but Michigan just can’t make up the early deficit.
