Dude, it freaks me out too. I have a Hunter Greene Cincinnati Fireball game shirt enough time taking care of him and making sure his needs are met and I’m 40 with 3 other kids from my ex-wife. Odds are 99% of the time things will go relatively well-enough if her oldest watched our son for an extended period of time by himself. And by that I mean, no injuries (beyond diaper rash or other temporary conditions) or death and his basic needs being taken care of. This kid, the 13 year old, literally turned the stovetop on to make ramen the other day while I was there and went back to his room and closed the door. I had to remind him that his water was boiling 5 minutes later. That’s to be expected, because he’s 13, but I would also expect him to treat our own son with the same irresponsible absentmindedness… What’s additionally worrisome about the situation is that the 13 year old has been spending more time taking care of his middle half-brother, who’s 4 from another father, than their mom has since he was 3 and the oldest being 12. My ex is totally grooming her oldest to be the de-facto parent in her absence while she’s at work and until recently her middle son was being fed nothing but junk food while she was away. It’s turned into a Lord of the Flies situation with her middle son, where the oldest kid is raising him and there just isn’t a lot of actual parenting occurring.

I appreciate you acknowledgement of Hunter Greene Cincinnati Fireball game shirt personal trauma and willingness to address and face it and especially the way you have interacted about it in this thread. That’s all I have to add about that. As to open carry, I’m friendly to it and OC a lot in summer as just a matter of personal comfort and CC almost exclusively all winter due to natural cover garments in the cold. But then I also spend most of my time around a pro-gun suburban to semi-rural area and as a matter of personal preference avoid crowds and crowded areas. However, after 17+ years experience, training and study of OC/CC, I do not and very rarely have OC in urban, urbanish or crowded areas. That some people may target an OC person is true, even if terribly and often overstated by certain CCW peeps. Further, the more people around the harder it is keep track of threats no matter how much you swivel. Also, risk of multiple assailants is generally higher. South Bend has changed a lot since I was last there according to family who still live in and around the area. But from my understanding of what it is like now, there are areas where I would probably be ok with OC on an average day. But there are areas, like where it sounds like you live, that I wouldn’t want to drive through, let alone OC. I would find the risk of being ambushed by multiple assailants just for my weapon to exceed any deterrent benefit of being obviously armed. As I can’t quantify either risk and only perceive their relative level, I would error on the side of CC in such an area, there or in any other city. Just my personal thoughts as you asked.
