So after a while I found chose to find these situations funny. Honestly OP, when I was 16-21, my self-esteem was so shit, I could have easily made the same choices as you. But (with the help of therapy) when I turned 22, I started sitting in front of a mirror everyday and telling myself “Who gives a shit if you are ugly? You have plans and goals. Work hard, build yourself up. You deserve better than this box you keep shoving yourself into.” It took a few years but the person I am today is stronger for it. I will probably never marry or find love but who gives a shit. I will travel, join fun activities, get to see my nieces and nephews flourish and I will explore life. I don’t need a Film majors your movies won’t look like titanic but your career sure will Shirt to do any of that or to enjoy it better and I sure as shit don’t need to be pretty.

Farther back in AOL chat rooms pretending to be any female old or young, I remember this one person told me to put peanut butter on my bits and have my dog lick it off me. I was 10-12 something like that? Skip ahead a decade and a half and my Gf at the time was really into cod and overwatch and would get shit talked for “being terrible” (honestly she was pretty good not being biased) soon as they found out she was a girl tho boy lemme tell you some of their attitude changed REAL quick (the older guys at least, younger still toxic as shit) but for the most part it was the played out tropes over and over. For years I’ve played games as female characters, usually with neutral or feminine sounding names, and I don’t use voice chat. More often than not people will assume I’m a woman, and the only times I actually correct people is when they simply act friendly without trying to hit on me or make overtly sexual remarks because chances are those are the Film majors your movies won’t look like titanic but your career sure will Shirt just want to enjoy the game with friendly people just like I do. So yeah I’ve willingly put myself in the shoes of female gamers and I feel like it’s helped me understand the struggle a bit better than most guys, but I’ve considered myself a feminist for a long time and lurk in this sub quite a bit to try a familiarize myself with the common issues women deal with. I’ve seen a lot of the nasty shit y’all deal with from toxic male gamers first hand and it disgusts me. I’ve gotten the sexist remarks, graphically sexual comments, and rape threats. I feel like if more men play games like I do, they wouldn’t treat women with such disdain
