A guy I grew up with and honestly consider a younger brother caused a DUI fatality a Disney Mickey Dabbing Ugly Sweater Party. He took a plea – to spare the victim’s family – for 13 years. He’s heartbroken and terrified in prison, but puts on a brave face and does everything he can to stay safe and healthy and atone for his actions. Unfortunately, in the state he’s in, they have zero programming for substance abuse for state prisoners. He’s obviously sober now (had been for several months, until the night he caused the wreck), but would benefit greatly from some therapy. I’m one of the few people who writes him, puts money on his account, and still cares about him. It’s a damned shame his family was so judgmental and largely ostracized him for being gay. That, combined with religious trauma, is what I think ultimately led to his addiction. I guess what I’m saying here is that we’re all more than the sum of our mistakes. I don’t know why I felt compelled to even post this…maybe because my friend has been on my mind all day.

think of the kneeling as an Disney Mickey Dabbing Ugly Sweater Party way to show respect to the flag and anthem at the same time protest what they don’t agree with. as far as I can see a lot of these players are kneeling with a hand on their chest, certainly not behaving disrespecfully. the players want to make a statement by doing something different that can get the nation’s attention. they’re not doing this to disrespect the anthem or flag. this whole mess started with protest to racism in our society. having a racist president using divisive language while calling white supremacists “good people” and black athletes exercising their constitutional rights SOBs is not going to make things better. As for how to solve this, if our president can stop his erratic and childish behavior that would be a nice first step.

my mom and dad, technically my grandmother and adoptive grandfather (who raised 2 generations of kids he didn’t have to — my mom and then me) but Disney Mickey Dabbing Ugly Sweater Party doesn’t matter that’s my mom and dad, both have been gone for more than 20 years. my dad passed first, and very shortly after my grandmother got sick and she just had no will to love, no desire to even get a diagnosis, but an autopsy confirmed it had been lung cancer that had metastasized to her chest wall. i provided her hospice care when i was about 12-13 and still reeling from the loss of my dad. i don’t really talk to her because i feel so guilty that i was not a better carer. i was not cruel but i was scared. so scared to watch her change, shrink, watch all of her strength and sass and even her penchant for occasional emotional battering ebb away. but i talk to my dad sometimes. out loud. and always when i’m looking at the stars. so of course, i read this and smiled. ugly cried, too. but i smiled, and looked across the road to the sky (it’s still dark where i am), and said ‘hey dad.’
