Either they’re shutting the run down or they’re shutting KJ down. I don’t think they can shut it all down. I think them putting the ball in Cliff’s hands actually benefits us, so it’ll be interesting to see what their defensive gameplan is. This feels like the Shorter game. The biggest aspect people probably aren’t talking about is how PSUs special teams has become one of the best and Minnesota’s has been struggling. Their punter has one of the lowest net avgs and they’ve had some really bad hiccups in coverage. kJ hamler has returned two kicks in two weeks but had them called back for penalties. Blake Gillikin has returned back to All-American punter form and Chisena+Hartlaub on coverage have pinned numerous kicks inside the 20. Gillikin has basically won some games over this 3 game stretch and including the Pitt game and Minnesota’s punter has struggled and now has to kick to one of the most dangerous guys in CFB. My guess is that he’ll try to kick away from him which will lead to some shanks and great field position.

We’re also forgetting the Cats For Everybody Merry Christmas Ugly Christmas Sweater that Penn States offense against Michigan was anemic. The defense faced almost 60 snaps before the half and the offense had 1 first down. They did a good job bottling up Michigan and keeping them to field-goals before then – but the dam broke and it was over. I don’t think the Michigan game is a good stat measuring stick as that whole team just did not show up. I don’t think OSU’s defense is of the same caliber as Michigans and PSU always plays better at home and better against OSU (last years BNK against Michigan was a 4pt game and that PSU team finished 7-6 with a way worse run game). Wouldn’t be shocked if this is a one score game midway through the 4th. But OSU is definitely handling business.

In my original post, I noted that the ACC is trash this year. You’re not going to get an Cats For Everybody Merry Christmas Ugly Christmas Sweater out of me for that. But since we are looking at PSU, let’s also note that all the good wins, save on a neutral site against Furman, are against other B1G teams. Clearly, there is a self-referential thing going on with the B1G. Perhaps it is because the ACC and Pac 12 are so bad at the bottom. But it seems like the conference is propping up a lot of mid-tier teams that maybe shouldn’t be as close to the middle of the bubble as we think they are.
