Some were able to learn to read, play musical instruments, and discern many other discrete cultural markers for success. In my genealogical research, I see so very many great African American families. I contrast them with Native American families, since I have yet to discern any comparable families, with the exception of the Cadotte fur trader family of the 1800s, of which I claim some relation. I have yet to see one Native American family that compares to the numerous great African American dynasties. The reason that I deduce without any study is that the Native American contact with cultural markers was limited due to being placed on reservations. Another is that Native American cultural preservation was a concern. I would be more than happy to provide numerous examples of the great African American families.
