We mutually agreed to break up a Bicycle no 1 Tadej Pogacar logo shirt our son was born. We’ve been trying to co-parent though and coordinate with each other to reduce dependence in daycare now that she’s recently returned to work this week. She asked me to watch him after I got off at 3pm today, saying she had to work until 7:30. I thought it was odd she was only going in for 4 hours or so, but she said something about covering down for one of her employees. Turns out she’s working a full day and our two month old son has only had his 13 year old half brother to watch him since 11am. That’s not at all safe or appropriate in my opinion. While her older son is capable of doing basic things for our newborn, I don’t think a 13 year old has the maturity or trustworthiness required to fully take care of a newborn for several hours. Luckily I work across the street from where she lives and so immediately left work to rush over there. We live in Arizona and there’s no minimum age to legally babysit, but I definitely feel like this was not appropriate, not safe and honestly probably constitutes neglect. Just an FYI as well, the daycare we use is closed on the weekends. I will be taking off of work early again tomorrow though if I need to. Edit: For those saying 13 is old enough to watch a 2 month old for several hours – don’t get me wrong, he’s a good kid and can definitely help with our son and is capable of feeding him, etc, but 3 months ago his mom literally didn’t trust him to use the stovetop when he was home alone. That’s good parenting, not trusting a 13 year old with an open flame to keep him from burning the house down. When it comes to my son though, all common sense has gone out the window apparently…
