Hi everyone, I’m not too active in the scene here anymore, but I’ve gotten back to lurking recently with all the stuff happening, and I wanted to quickly comment on one of the more concerning trends that I’ve noticed on here. For the most part, the discussion of events that I’ve seen on here, while chaotic when things first come out, tends to coalesce into a healthy, reasoned, well-intentioned conclusion. I do believe that most of the people here genuinely care about the victims and about making this community safer for everyone. And I believe that those who don’t care about those things will quickly move on to another community. To get to the point, I’ve noticed more than a few users on here speaking critically of all that’s going on, who describe these current events as “lynchings”. Now listen, I’m not black myself, so I am by no means an expert on the topic. However, it’s important to remember what lynchings actually are, and especially the implications of the word in American culture. Lynchings were, for lack of a better word, a cultural institution in the American South (and even America as a whole) between the end of Reconstruction and the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. According to the NAACP’s website, around 4,743 lynchings occurred in the US between those years, and those are simply the confirmed ones we know about. Lynchings were a way for embittered and emboldened southern white supremacists to enforce extrajudicial power over black people, and were often done as a public spectacle in broad daylight, with the clear intent being to promote fear and panic among the South’s black communities. People died in these events, which continued unchecked for nearly a century in the United States. Lynching as a practice still lives vividly as a memory for those black people old enough to have been around during those times, and the effects of the practice have profoundly affected not just them, but the cultural psyche of our nation as a whole. All this to say, holding abusers to account for their shitty actions is not a fucking lynch mob, and I think that it’s irresponsible to throw that word around in this situation. I want to be clear in that I do not condone attacking people with no evidence, or hate mail, or death threats, or any such action. But the response from the community at large has been, in my opinion, overall reasoned, and not comparable even metaphorically to a “lynch mob”.

Very sorry to hear about your grandmother. I’m not sure what photo the All I Want For Christmas Is Steve Harrington Christmas Steve Harrington Christmas Ugly Sweater last night was referring to, but I went to news sites, and saw photos of the interior of both planes, and as explained in the NY Post article, apparently both planes carried 7 known infected patients, in the tented area in each plane. But each plane also had a mini cargo container metal box, which is explained as a unit capable of housing 6 patients for immediate transfer off the plane by a truck or something. I’m guessing that since none of the folks on the plane were symptomatic or incapable of sitting, that the metal containers were empty, and the known patients were put in the tented areas. With 6 hours on the bus, then 10 on the plane, the others could have caught it anywhere, if not back on the ship, which all know now was not a good quarantine. It will be a good study when all is known. I think the CDC was correct over the State Dept. to probably leave the 14 in care of Japan, since the planes and busses were not ready for full quarantine capabilities, but they only learned of the 14 positives while already on the bus.

I am a All I Want For Christmas Is Steve Harrington Christmas Steve Harrington Christmas Ugly Sweatermale and I have been dealing with debilitating IBS symptoms for about 7 years now. I have read about PFD before and I am almost certain I have it. My whole life since I was a child I had what my parents coined “nervous stomach” where basically any stressful situation I encountered I would immediately have to go have diarrhea. I stupidly developed a habit of straining when I had these episodes so I could “clear it out” and resume whatever activity I was doing. I believe that by straining, I have tricked my body into tightening the muscles that should be relaxing when you have a BM. My primary IBS symptoms are what I call “soft constipation” (essentially slow moving stool thats not traditionally characteristic of constipation i.e. hard & small), tenesmus, and severe pain in my perineum that spreads to my legs, groin, and back. I often have to go to the restroom in waves and sometimes the urgency to go lasts hours. I only find relief whenever I eat something spicy and I have straight diarrhea with no effort on my part to pass it. However, even when I have diarrhea sometimes it takes my body a moment to relax the muscles to let the diarrhea pass. I’ve had a colonoscopy 4 years ago and all the GI noted was that there was inflammation but nothing indicative of a serious disease. I deal with these problems on a weekly basis and I’m not sure what to do. The only nearby GI doctor didn’t seem to resonate with what I was explaining to him & these issues are severely affecting my life negatively. I would be immensely appreciative if you could give me your thoughts.
